our trip to france

After our return from glastonbury by recovery truck we were very unsure about taking her to france for le tour stage 6.
we had changed the fuel filter and hoses, reattached vacuum hose to distributor and checked all connections and she now seemed ok,but were very unsure what we had done to fix her,so we decided that if she made it to portsmouth ferry then we'd go!(informed breakdown cover of trip, just in case!)
no problems on the motorway but very steep slope to board the 11pm night crossing to le havre.
le havre is a major construction site at the moment and is very confusing so went around in circles before finding our way out. we had decided that we would avoid the very long high bridge out as crosswinds can be a nightmare so took the scenic route to vire sticking to the smaller roads.unfortunately smaller roads roads did not mean smaller hills. long straight roads on the map stretched before us,uphill.but the beddie took them in her stride, gulping petrol as she did so.
Vire is a small town and we parked about two miles outside on the side of the road ready for the tour to pass the next day.over the course of the evening the road around us filled with other campers, all new and shiny but no character!
we spent the next day watching for the tour in extremes of weather, hot sunshine, then rain, hail and thunder then sunshine again.very thankful we had a beddie and weren't cycling. it really is a race of endurance,i couldn't walk up some of the hills they ride up.people were very friendly and we stayed another night by the side of the road before heading to mortain to see the waterfall,a very pretty narrow cascade,in the rain.
flers was quite close so we wondered around its castle before heading to falaise for the night.falaise has an aire in the supermarket car park but we drove around to the back of the castle to the overflow car park and spent the night under its walls without any problem, much nicer too.
in the morning we wondered around the market and then planned our journey to liseux, again beddie and hills!but no-one seemed to mind us crawling up them at 20mph,think its because they are used to following tractors!lol
liseux has a service aire in the centre of town and free overnight parking by the church.here we parked surrounded by very expensive, very modern motorhomes,we looked a little out of place but wouldn't swap her for a minute, got some very curious looks.:D
next day we headed up to merville battery, something i've wanted to see for years, lots of information and recollections of the attack, well worth a visit.
back along the coast to deaville, the aire here had free electric hook up and was tucked behind a sports centre. we really loved this place, the beach was very long and wide,it had an amazing harbour and the sun stayed out!:D
walking around we realised that other campers were parked alongside the middle harbour overlooking the harbour between deaville and tourville, great idea and there seemed no limit to how long you could stay(aire max 2 nights)two amazing days before it was time to head back to le havre.
we woke up to a downpour,so being concerned about beddies wipers after glasto we decided to be brave and take the toll motorway and big bridge back into port as it would be at least an hour quicker.this was very scary!!motorway was very busy, the wind from passing lorries extreme ,then we saw the bridge!!it stretches over the seine and is very high!beddie struggled with its slope but finally made it over the top, straight run into le havre then, where they have an aire 10 minutes from the ferry on the harbour;parked for the night then caught the ferry home the next day.
about 500 miles in total.£200 in petrol and an amazing week in France! beddie did us proud but really struggled up the hills, time for another service i think!
can't wait for our next expedition which is endorset in dorset festi.
will add photos in a bit:D
