CF350 dormobile minibus.

Hi all, obviously new to this forum, great to see activity!
Just about to purchase a CF350 dormobile minibus that i will convert to a camper. She's born 1981, super original condition, and with only small fails on the MOT. It needs a couple outriggers bolted on. Does antbody know whats the best way to do this, should i lift the floor, and is it an easy job? Also the flashers are flashing too fast...any ideas?
Sure there's a couple more things, but would love any info, as would love to keep a posted progrees with the old girl.
Regards to all.
Paddy down in Cornwall.

Hi Paddy welcome to the site, not sure about the bolt on outriggers but the flashers flashing to fast ,providing they are all working I would fit another flasher unit. After fiting LED rear lights on my camper they were flashing to fast I bought an electronic flasher off ebay for 99p and it cured the problem.

Welcome. I think I saw your bus on ebay. Me and the Mrs were almost about to bid at the end, in case she went to the scrapper - looks like a lovely project, if I didn't have 2 already I'd have maybe bought her myself. Good luck with the resto!

Wow, thanks for all your responses, great to see a real living community!
Indeed the bus was just purchased off ebay, taking delivery of the ol girl on fri 2nd march...cant wait! Flashers seem an easy job, the chap whom the bus was brought from, mentioned 2 riggers need replacing or weilding, guess its easier to lift the floor to get to them, but bolt on bolt off, im not sure? Will keep you all posted when she arrives.
Thanks again for warm welcome!
Paddy.

Hi Paddy, the rigers can be bought (for a hefty price I expect)any good mechanic could make these and weld them on.ou dont have to lift the floor.Ihope this helps.Beers + Beers Jim

Out riggers where never bolted on but welded.

Depending on which one that have gone.....
If its the single bracers then they can be replaced with ease as they not load bearing .
If its the box section ones where the spring hangers attach to then you will have to remove the springs which can be a big job...........

Great answers and welcome guys! When bus arrives with give you the lowdown, hopefully the riggers are the load bearers.
Does anyone have an idea of the MPG for the 2.3 petrol?
Thanks again!
Paddy.

Every engine is different. Mines a 2.3 petrol. I consider myself lucky if I get 20-25mpg.

...mind you, with the price of diesel now, petrol must be a better option, unless of course you fit LPG (expensive)! My bus has completed just 70000, so shouldnt be too worn, but i will obviously get cambelt change etc. Is there anything that can be done to help economy?
1 day too go till delivery! Wooo hoooo.
Paddy.

Since I've had my CF1 350, (2 and half years) I have got an average 13 to 14 mpg on lpg (petrol seems about the same - though a great deal more expensive so I obviously don't use it as much!) Have just installed a completely rebuilt engine (another 2.3 slant) complete with hardened valve seats, and although its early days and it runs perfectly, fuel consumption seems much the same, though admittedly have yet to do a big run with the new engine. Hi all, well heres the update...
Took delivery yesterday, shes very tidy, and a book load of MOTs going back to 1989, so the milage of 70k is verified. The failier sheet says, offside rear chassis suspension mounting corroded, offside body mounting suspension mounting corroded, nearside outrigger suspension mounting corroded, and some brake issues.. is this bad?
Also, oil filer cap was creamy, so changed oil and filter, run her up and creamy again, engine runs sweet, ticked over for half hour, temp remained normal, no bubbling in radiator, dipstick just oil, very slight white smoke from exhaust with some water, and on hard rev, smoke coming up from oil filler. Yes i hear you say, headgasket gone, but im not too sure, she doesnt overheat at all. Bus has been layed up for ages, could this just be condensation build up under rocker at top end that is causing the creamy stuff? Any advice would be very apreciated.
Paddy.

Some photos would help with the corrosion issues. Is it a panel van conversion or a coachbuilt body?

Emulsion in the oil filler neck on the slant engine normally isn't anything to worry about.
