Zig CPX7 Control Panel

Hi Guys, was checking over 'Betsy' ahead of Phils meet at the end of May and found this Zig panel under the jump seat. When I flicked the switch to either car battery or caravan battery nothing seemed to happen. Then I noticed that the units front was attached with electrical tape, came off in me hand guv...

I checked inside and all the wires seem to be firmly attached..but as this is our first van I have really no idea what this unit does or how it should be wired etc.

I had the engine running as I had'nt started her for a few days and thought I would let her run while I cleaned and messed about inside (oh matron that sounded naughty) anyway the 12v lights were working fine and I know the leisure battery is brand new...

Anyone give me any advice on what I should be looking for wiring wise etc...

Also I think the three way fridge in there does'nt work on gas or 12v...so if anyone has a cheap working one going give us a shout..

cheers

Graham

I found this wiring diagram online. You'll need to trace the wires to see where they go on yours.Ditto with the fridge, see if the wires go to the unit or straight to the battery(via relay?).Gas wise make sure all the pipes are connected and when you attempt to light it that you're on level ground.
What make fridge is it you might find an online manual or someone here might have one?

Hi The idea of a zig unit is to distibute the power to the appliances in your camper and charge the leasure battery when running or on a hookup, the most common falt with the fridge not working on gas is the jet being obstructed. disconnect the fridge take it out and turn it upside down for 24 hours make sure the jet isnt fouled then put it back hopefully it will work. The fridges are desingned to work on 12 volt only when the engine is running as they take about 20 amp per hour hope this helps.

Hi guys, thanks for getting back so quick..

Thanks for finding that diagram Blue, I obviously just kept putting the wrong words in my google search..

Cheers Dave, So, I guess the fact that the 12v lights are working ok either with the engine running means that the wiring to the small 10 amp fuse box is connected fine and working...just gotta hope it's charging..

I knew about using the fridge on 12v would use to much juice so really need to get the gas working..guess next thing is as you suggest and take it out and check it all..cheers

Ok, the fridge is an Electrolux 212a...so if anyone has a manual or knows where to point me to then that will be fantastic..

I tried to get it out but it's either bloody welded in or had the cupboards built round it.. I don't really want to cause too much damage at the mo so took of the control facia and the drawer that was above it and can get access to the gubbins at the top...took off the gas manifold and checked the gas in pipe and there is def gas coming to that point..the push in control and pressure baffle were fairly stiff and sticky so that may be contributing..going to try and free it up a bit going to try and find a diagram for that as well..

Looks like someone may have connected an on/off switch for the 12v side as I found a little switch inside the under sink cupboard with wires connected into the wiring block..no idea if this is working so need to get a volt meter and check it...

The fridges are ussually a pain to get out, I remember taking mine out the last year while at a steam rally, I had to take the draw out then the draw runners then a piece of wood the I got to the brackets that held the fridge in. I took it out and had it in my awning checked the jet wasnt fouled a basic clean and replaced it and its worked fine since, so all tho its not easy to get out its definately worth the time.

Cheers for the photo..I went out again today and hunted around...finally found three rusty screws in the frame of the 2 cupboards either side... got the fridge out and the back pipes etc are pretty rusty...got the gas working though..

Put it all back in and fired the gas up and flame was burning....waited a couple of hours but not really convinced the thing is working well.. the pipe at the top was slowly getting hot but it got so late that I turned it off to start checking the 12v...

Followed the wires and found that the supply had been cut under the carpet so new wiring needs to be run...will sort that tomorrow...

Also managed to get the zig voltage indicator working as well..

Do you guys think that maybe the thing needs tipping up for 24hrs as per Dave's comment to allow maybe the refrigerant to flow..

I would also like to thank you all for your quick answers and suggestions and hope to meet some of you up in Rossendale at the end of May..

I was told by PeteH that theese fridges have chemicals in as apposed to gas and tipping it upside down for 24 hours mixes the chemicals enabling the fridge to work. One other member the other year had the same problem and it cured it for him so its got to be worth trying. The 12 volt running off the fridge is normaly done through a relay on my van I have a combination relay that split charges the battery and runs the fridge on 12 volt, I also have another relay wired up for when I take my 3 way freezer camping.

Hi just a bit of info most of the fridges we use in our vans are not CFC based gasses, therefore cannot be refilled the systems we have are called absorption cycle, ie no moving parts, the unit just relies on heat to change the state of ammonia, hydrogen and water which allows refrigeration
so if the fridge has been stood for a while it's a good idea to turn them over a few times to mix things up, when doing this you should hear lquid trickling through thats normal,
