my cf history

HELP!!!
I've just inherited a beautiful 1971 Bedford cf and apparently she used to be an ambulance and although she is coach painted at the mo I would love to restore her to her original livery but cant find anything out about her. She has a single swing door boot (not up and over) and comes from Somerset but i cant find any pictures on the internet hoping someone can help
Dan

It might have been registered in the area where it was first used so there could be a clue in the registration mark letters (e.g. VR for Manchester, JA for Stockport).

The original Ambulance Service then might be able to tell you what livery they used in 1971.

Sadly not. You'll need to upload them to photobucket or similar first then link back to them.

My first thought was Wadham Stringer body: very similar in style to Wadham-bodied LD4 ambulances that I worked on in the early 1970s (roof line & rear door mainly).

Chassis number translates as CF series chassis cab, 106 inch wheelbase, 5231 lb (2373 kg) GVW, 120.5 cu in. (1975 cc) Vauxhall OHC gasoline engine, 1970 production year (Vauxhall plant).

Curious that it's a chassis cab version rather than a chassis cowl with Wadham sliding doors, a rarity just for that.

Registration letters YD originally was Somerset area but that changed to Taunton early 1970s as more local area licensing offices opened.

This registration was first registered during the period August 1970 to July 1971.

The registration was first registered in Somerset.

thank you

thanks for your replies!
have added some more pictures today ( http://s1160.photobucket.com/albums/q499/mobious141/Facebook/the%20new%20van/ ) and found out what a project ive taken on
once the engine issues are sorted out which shouldn't be too hard the body is rotting, the paintwork is shoddy, the interior has been filled with speakers and mdf and the back window is plastic then there's the electrics and on it goes!
still I love a challenge and will keep you posted as I progress!
if anyone can tell me what she used to look like that would be amazing
cheers
Dan

I've found a pic of another one, sadly not Somerset livery.
http://www.ambulancepreservation.co.uk/historic/pictures/tnk486j.jpg
These two are Somerset livery of the 80's not sure if it was different in the 70's.

(I didn't want to hotlink to the pics which is why I've given links.)
