CF Autosleeper pop top not popping

Morning
I have a CF Autosleeper that has this poptop
(hopefully link works) http://www.bedfordcf.co.uk/br/br34_p1.jpg

Any way is stuck down lock thankfully. I think the rear hinges is broken. Because its down and locked I can see whats going on. Does anyone have a photo of these back hinges or anything describing the way they work and lock and or a way to get in there and free it up with out damaging to to much so I can get repair's done.

The Lever / spring at rear offers no resistance right thru so its not turning anything to do with the locks.

When I put my hand in towards the back hinge / lock theres only bit of wood coming away.

Thank in advance.

Hi
from memory, the handle that hangs down in the centre of the vehicle turns a rod that goes to either side at the rear. On both ends is a plate shaped like a large comma. As you push the handle into the horizontal position it turns these so that they engage onto a pin at both sides.
I can't see how the hinges will affect anything - they're just long piano hinges. Once the locking mechanism is dis-engaged the roof will move.
My guess is that the locking tabs have sheared away from the operating rod. If you can get a hand or tool down the side you may be able to push them out of the way.
On the other hand, is the handle actually turning the rod? You should be able to see this. If not, mole grips should sort it.
Hope that helps
Tony

may have to replace the wood if its rotten and that may give the lever the leverage if its not broken as the above has said .

thank you for the description of the hinge. Very helpful.
Yes the leaver turns the Rod. SO yes I would say the wood has rotted away causing the "fork" not to be turning

Will post how it goes in a week or so. (which I had paid attention to the hinge set up!)

actually now I think about it, odd that both "forks" are staying locked...... as in, both sides rotted equally.

Now I come to think about it, I had a similar problem although I may be dreaming this up. I think that the locating pins are secured by 3 screws each. If the underlying wood rots, this can mean that the pins shift so that the catches are no longer able to clear them when you move the lever. I think I ended up unscrewing the hinge at the rear end and shifting the roof panel away.

I've just been out with a torch to check and there seems to be no other way that the roof could 'stick' apart from the rubber seal round the edge of the roof holding the whole thing down - also give the hinges at both ends a good dose of penetrating oil just to make sure.

Another easier thing to try is get two mates outside to put a little pressure on the roof at both sides about 18 inches forward of the rear door. This might just allow the locking plates to get around the pins - plenty of spray oil to be applied before hand.
Good luck.

And by the way, the spring at the rear only comes into effect when you begin to raise the roof and is intended to make it easier to lift the weight up. i t has nothing to do with the locking mechanism.
