New member, lots of questions

Hi. My name is Hayden, I've recently joined and bought a swb 1979 cf pop top. Great wagon but I have a few questions I hope someone can help me with.

1. Where is the idle screw on the carb? It's a factory 2.3 petrol. Seems to be running on very low idle.

2. It isn't shifting properly. Has to rev very high before shifting, I can manually shift at lower revs from 1 to 2 but to get into 3 you need to rev very high. First trip out it blew a hose on trans, so that has been replaced and new fluid added, any ideas where to check for vacuum etc, or any other suggestions?

3. I cleaned the points and dist, now it runs better at idle, have found an electronic points kit I can bolt on, are these worth while? Or better to stick with contact points?

Ay help or suggestions on these issues would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Hayden,welcome to the club.
If It's the weber carb have a look at this thread.13502
If it's the Zenith have a look at these.

Not sure about the other points so I'll leave that to the experts.

just to answer my own questions in case someone else has same issue.

The high revving before shifting gears was due to a vaccuum leak from the trans, a bit of hose later it shifts mint.

The carb wasnt the issue in the other problem, it had slipped out of time slightly, and the mechanic reckons electronic points are the way to go for sure.

Hi ,your mech is right.Make sure you get the pointless Kit .The main problem is setting the points. The timing should be set at 9 deg BTDS.I hope this helps.Cheers+Beers,Jim.

If you join our sister site http://www.buga.com.au/ they will be able to help you with all the info you will need and will know exactly which engine you have fitted as most of the exports where fitted with Holden engines
