Prop shaft has come apart

I've just pulled into an Esso garage to fill up with petrol and the battery went flat. I pushed the van back to enable me to push it forward to bump start it and the prop shaft dropped off. Can anyone advise why this might have happened?

propsplit

hi,look at the splins under the van,you will see a bolt and washer, remove these push the other half of the shaft on to the splins and replace the bolt with a new larger washer. You may have to split the Hardy spicer.Cheers Jim.

looks like someone not fitted the prop properly and you have been lucky for it to happen where it did and not at warp speed which could have been very nasty..

you need to find a thick washer that will fit in the hardyspicer and also a tab washer that can be peened over to stop the bolt coming loose again ..

if you put the bolt with washers in first you will be able to use a slim spanner to turn very slowly .
