New member with CF250 autosleeper (Bognor)

Hi guys, i've just bought 300 quids worth of 1980 CF pop top camper and blimey it is rusty... The door posts flex, door bottoms flap, windscreen surround is full of filler and grp every panel is rusty or has had an amateur repair. I had to change the prop centre bearing and disconnect the handbrake cable to drive it. It is intermittently running on 3 cylinders. My better have did her nut and thinks i've lost my marbles, but I love it.

It will never be a good example, but I love it and will get it up together so we can enjoy it. I don't want to spend too much on it, but be smart and resourceful about getting spares etc.

I live in Bognor Regis and would like to meet up with other CF enthusiasts.

A brave man.

Hi gazc130,

Being brave or even stupid is a requirement for anybody who buy's a Bedford CF, I know this because I did just what you have done.
And the saddest part of that is that I owned two Bedford's back in the eighties and should know better, but I went and bought another one six years ago, how stupid is that.
It has taken me all that time while still using it on the road to repair and correct breakdowns and faults, even just today all the lights failed to work which turned out to be a bad earth wire.
You will find just when you think nothing else can go wrong it does, I am glad Bedford never built ships because they leak when rain is forecast before it has time to fall.
In spite of all that like yourself I like the old tub's enjoy getting your Bedford back into running order.

CF 250 new owner

Hello and welcome to the world of CF250.
As Doujoy said a certain amount of stupidity and bravery are reqd but they have a charm due to their simple layout and basic by todays standards engineering. You have paid less than a good shed would cost and you can spend hours tinkering and trying to work round things so look upon it as an investment which you might even get to drive now and then. it will give you an opportunity to brush up on your welding, fibreglassing, bodywork repair, painting and that's before you do anything to the mechanicals or interior. It will always be a work in progress.
