Edward is hitting a wall

Hi Folks...
Looking for advice and though I'm a card holder I can't seem to post under Gethin's engine section...

Anyway, I'm losing hope on Edward the Bedford. It is over in NI (I'm in Perth) and the guys "doing" it aren't actually really interested in it.
The CF I'm keeping has had some bodywork done but there is no engine in it. It did have a petrol engine before. I've a diesel engine from my other bedford, but it isn't an original bedford engine anyway and I'm told its not worth putting in... so.... the big questions are:

What engine exactly do I put in it?
Anyone want to do it for me and I'll transport it over?!

I think I would prefer a newer engine than reconditioning a bedford engine which I don't have anyway.

I'm constantly being told I'm wasting my money. But I would LOVE to get Edward on the road. Help / advice welcome and needed.

Hi,

I am no expert in what engine to choose, but I would recommend taking a look at the engine swap info from this site here:

Diesel engine.

Hi Jmca74,

I know one guy in the Bedford CFUK club who has fitted a Frontera engine into has Bedford CF but not without some problems after a big job and a lot of hard work, I think he now has it up and running after many months and few setbacks.
Is the Bedford you intend to fit with a diesel engine had a petrol engine in it, because you will need to do quite a lot of structural alteration if that is the case.

Hello Jmca74.

With regard to an engine alternative there was recently on the parts for sale section of this site a chap who was selling a Rover 600 diesel set up with gearbox and most parts you will need to fit as he had run it in his own Bedford CF for a few years but was now going to upgrade. Perhaps if you contact the site Admin they may be able to find you the details.

Regards Andy

The laughing stops when I drive away.

Hi,

To return one of these old Bedford's back to a useful road going state and keep it there year on year in-spite of high road tax and low miles per-gallon and the endless smart comments you get from people who are driving a near new Citroen Renault or Fiat which in most cases they will never finish paying for and have to rely totally on garage computer diagnosis when a light comes on the dash.
I think we have proved we are running a motor that they will never be able to still have on the road thirty two years after it was built and through clubs like this we are able to help one another do just that.
But it is hard going sometimes to find what you want or repair what you have, but sometime you have to settle less than you had planned to do or find another way to do it.
