Plug lead caps.

Hi Mike,

Were they the hard plastic type sometimes fitted to carbon leads?
I have made up a set of wire core plug leads for my old Bedford as the carbon leads did not like the heat, you will be glad to have that problem solved!

I have FINALLY tracked down the bloody missfire, all summer it has irritated me but I haven't had time to tinker with it.

I feel very foolish indeed now because it turned out to be defective spark plugs.

I bought eight AC Delco plugs from ebay and fitted a set - this brought about the problem which was masked early on because the engine was running in so was never really loaded. When the problem did surface I fitted the second four new plugs which did not clear the problem (both sets dud) and this of course clouded the issue. I don't know whether these are counterfeit plugs or its just bad originals in the end.

The new plugs are NGK and came from http://www.gsparkplug.com/ who gave excellent advice and prompt service so I recommend them.

So nice to have the van running properly now that I just nip out in it just for a drive, happy as a pig in s*** :)

Spark plugs.

Hi Mike,

Once you replaced them with new one's everyone thinks that is a possible cause cancelled and it is time to look for another cause somewhere else along the line, did you have them tested?

Plugs.

Hi Mike,

With Renault it was standard to check the resistance reading on new spark plugs before they were fitted, and on the newer motors they had to be coded into the computer system using a sixteen figure code number different on each spark plug.
But I am glad to hear you have found the problem.
