Knocking noise

Hey all,

So having completed a full engine swap and some other minor jobs including new wheels and tyres. Wheels and tyres where done by a mobile tyre company. I have noticed a knocking noise when turning which is louder at mid to low speed. On closer inspection i am missing the counter sunk retaining screw on the brake drums and the driver side one moves but the passenger side doesn't. Has any one had a similar experience of this knocking? or know where i can get a new screw or what size the screw is so i can order one from my local motor factors. i have checked and double checked all bolts after the engine swap paranoid it may have been a loose one but no luck. ANy suggestions would be great. thanks

Knocking noise.

Hi daddyboards,

Sounds more like a broken engine or gearbox mount to me, but if it was a brake drum it would have to be because you had a incorrectly fitted or lose wheel.
I would check the front cross-member to chassis mountings as well, there is one other thing is just might be and I have had this problem on my own Bedford when I first brought it home, when the steering was on full lock the inside of the front wheel rim was able to click the balance weights on the inside of the wheel rim against the flexi-brake hose carrier, check for any marks on the carrier.

Missing screws

Hi daddyboards, the missing screws are to hold the drum inplace when you remove the wheel.I think the screws are 3/8 unc thred, you will need to ask at garages for these or try your local scrapdealer.Cheers+Beerrs Jim.

Knocking

Is the noise there all the time or just when turning?I would strip the brakes clean and refit this will then eliminate them, also check the bearings. Then you can go on from there.Cheers Jim.
