Why are seach posts duplicated?

Why are so many posts in the search engine duplicated sometimes up to as many as six I've seen.

When you enter a word/phrase to search for it lists every message that contains that word or phrase and not just every thread.

I find it useful....as I can see how many times a word/phrase has been used in any one thread..!..:)

Maybe I should have said topics

I dont know if I'm explaining this very well, maybe I should have said topics instead of posts, to give an example of what I'm trying to explain if you go to the search engine and type in 'heater' you will see many topics duplicated one 'Heater on 2.0 ambulance' has been duplicated seven times and there are many more like it. I just wonder if there is some technical fault here that needs fixing.

Right.!...the thread subject heading is 'Heater on 2.0 ambulance'...and you know that 'heater' has been used on 7 different posts within that thread...so you know it's probably worth reading the whole thread...does that make it clearer at all..?

Hope it does....:)

One thing I could do (once I have a spare minute or two!) is to alter it so say you searched for the word 'heater' the display could be something like

Heater on 2.0 ambulance (4 times)
Cab of CF (1 time)
some other thread (7 times)

That would show the thread (with click on link) and how many messages in that thread contain the search word.
