Been a long time coming but... I started on the van this week....All the front is stripped out, front panel is removed and the carpet and seats from the cab is stripped out. I am doing this the hard way, and not lifting the front of the van off its front suspension and cross member, this is due to my lifting frame deciding to fold on me, which frightened the poo out of me and set me back quite a bit. I have had to remove the engine from the big hole in the front which sounds easier than it is. I was going to remove the head first so I just had to lift the block out, but the exhaust manifold bolt heads for that have rusted away to nowt and some of the head bolts are under the manifold, so the cooked 1800 had to come out in one piece. Bloody stupid place to put an engine!!! lol Engine mounts are now cut off and the metal work that surrounds the engine has been cleaned and painted black. I will do the rest of the bulkhead when I fit halogen headlamps. I have removed the water tank from under the van as this was in the way of the new transmission and guess what? It was very full, of very stagnant water and it went everywhere, so I jumped in the shower quick. The van had been standing for 5 years when I bought it and I didn't put the water in there, I bet there was some lovely infections/illnesses waiting to happen in there, it certainly smelt bad enough. The next thing to do is position the V8 block and new transmission where it wants to be on wooden blocks, and weld in the new engine mounts. I'm now all showered and sterilised now so thats it untill next weekend. I'm hoping to have her finished and back on the road before the end of april. ---------------------- | Sat 13 Mar 2010 @ 16:57 |

I have the box, stick and all the bolts sitting on my drive waiting for me to do something with them . The box occaisionally crunched 4th gear but I believe this was due to the clutch dragging. With the front brakes I will be after a full disc set up as I am on drums at the mo and that may get a little scary. I have ni Idea what the box is worth, make me an offer . ---------------------- | Sun 14 Mar 2010 @ 12:40 |

Sorry Red, not had much chance to get on here, we lost internet at home due to a buggered wi-fi hub, and we're not really supposed to use the net at work. Not sure whats happening with the engine ad gearbox at the mo, the wife has provisionally sold it to the guy who bought our Chevette from us (she tells me this was arranged when I picked up the V8 monts ago ), If he hasn't picked it up by the weekend I'll give you a shout . Progress update... After pretty much dropping the engine through the van onto the ground underneath (whoops) I have finally managed to man handle it to where I think it wants to be. Progress is a lot slower than I expected or wanted but this is a proper awkward job. After this I think I'll stick to vehicles with the engine under the bonnet and not the floor!! I really should have arranged for another body to give me a hand with this as I needed to be at the front of the van while also being underneath and inside, all at the same time. ---------------------- | Tue 23 Mar 2010 @ 15:47 |

Excuse my cheek, but if you still have it and no longer need it, we're looking for a gearstick gaiter. Ours looks a bit like a pile of black pancakes;D Will pay for it and postage, PM with details please if you can help. Cheers, John and Sue. ---------------------- | Tue 23 Mar 2010 @ 16:14 |

Carl Thats what the angle grinder is for . I and going to remove the floor as necessary to allow the heads to be fitted, and if necessary remove them with out having to remove the complete engine. When I am happt the hole is big enough I will be welding box tubing around the hole to replenish any strenght I have removed. I will be documenting the build as I go so peeps can see how and what I am doing. ---------------------- | Tue 23 Mar 2010 @ 16:45 |

Hi all, sorry for the late update, it has been a while since I have touched the old girl due to cracks appearing in the walls of our house as a result of a collapsed drain . Anyway, not much to update but progress is being made (slowly). Engine mounts are welded in, and the hole in the floor has grown to accomodate the bigger motor. When I have been working on her progress has been very slow due to me being over fussy and measuring and marking things out 400 times before cutting and welding . I have made enough room for one of the heads to go on but have just ran out of cutting discs. Hopefully next weekend I will heve the other head on and the engine will be in a state where I can crank it over and then I will start making up the new engine harness for the electronic ignition, gauges etc. ---------------------- | Sun 11 Jul 2010 @ 14:43 |

Have been busy again today All thats left to do to get it running is plum in the cooling system and make the engine wiring loom. I will also be welding angle iron around the engine hole to serve two purposes, 1. to replace any strength I might have taken from the floor, and 2. to attach the bigger engine cover to when I make it. ---------------------- | Sat 17 Jul 2010 @ 21:26 |

Not much to update, but I have made a new wiring loom for the engine and have fitted a US Police style push bar. When the weather lets me I will roll around under her to make up the exhausts and with a bit of luck I should be ready to fire her up soon. ---------------------- | Thu 05 Aug 2010 @ 22:48 |

Hi all, Not touched the van for a while so I thought I'd better do something yeaterday. That was until the poo weather ruined the day. So I decided to do the dash cluster instead. The clocks were sourced from a Rover P6 3500S and are mounted in a sheet of clear perspex with wood effect sticky plasic stuck over the top. The "THIS WAY & THAT WAY" are gong to flash green for the indicator tell tale lights. All the switches will be mounted in a blank in the radio hole in the dash along with Battery and oil lights and the radio will be mounted in the top of the engine cover when I make it. ---------------------- | Mon 27 Sep 2010 @ 12:47 |
